The history of the company began in 1976 when Robert McClure, with $500 in his pocket, left his employment as an electrician and opened an electrical contracting business in his barn located in Petaluma, California. After working for the company as an apprentice, journeyman, foreman, estimator and project manager, Ed Gugel entered into a joint venture business with Bob (as RMG Electric) and eventually Ed became owner in 1998 when Bob retired. While the original barn office is still standing in Petaluma, the R. McClure offices are now located in Cotati, California.
